Where is Dubai International Academy located?

DIA is located in Emirates Hills, Dubai. It can be easily reached from the Sheikh Zayed Road (between interchanges 4 & 5), Emirates Road, and Al Khail Road. There is a map on the website at: www.diadubai.com/locationmap, or call our main reception on (+9714) 3684111 for directions.
Can I visit Dubai International Academy and have a tour of the facilities?

The main reception at the school and the Admissions Office is open from 8am until 3pm, Sunday to Thursday, during term time. You do not need to make an appointment to speak with our front office staff who can assist you with admissions and other general enquiries. Tours are usually conducted on Mondays and Wednesdays, but please contact us beforehand for details. Outside of term time, please contact us to confirm our opening hours.
How old is Dubai International Academy?

DIA opened on 10 September, 2005.
What sort of school is Dubai International Academy?

DIA is a Private School, recognised by the UAE Ministry of Education and the Government of Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority. DIA is an IB World School, authorised by the International Baccalaureate (IB) and is a regular member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
What curriculum does DIA follow? What accreditations does DIA hold?

DIA is an IB World School, the only school in the UAE authorised by the International Baccalaureate to offer the full continuum of programmes for all ages.

This includes:

Primary Years Programme (PYP) from KG1 to Year 6 inclusive
Middle Years Programme (MYP) from Year 7 to Year 11 inclusive
IB Diploma (DP) Year 12 and Year 13
Is DIA a co-educational school?

DIA is fully co-educational, with approximately equal numbers of girls and boys in all year groups from KG1 upto and including Year 13.
Is DIA associated with other schools or part of an Education Group?

Dubai International Academy is part of the Innoventures Education group, we have 2 other International schools in Dubai, which are:

What languages are taught at DIA?

English is the language used throughout the school and in all lessons. Within the Elementary school, Arabic and French are the standard second languages taught, however there are also Dutch German and Swedish classes for native speakers of these languages as an alternative.

In the Secondary School, Arabic is compulsory until end Year 10, and other language options include French, Spanish within the curriculum.

After the standard school day has finished, there are a number of language and culture schools, typically run by parents, that use DIA’s facilities to educate and inform students of their native language and culture,

Does DIA take admissions throughout the year and for all grades?

The admissions office is open all year around, for admissions of all ages for years from KG1 (3 to 4 years old) to IB Diploma years (16 to 18 years old). Please contact our admissions office at admissions@diadubai.com or +9714 3684111.
How does the admissions process work?

The first thing is to submit a completed application to the DIA admissions office, online through the website at: www.diadubai.com/admission. There are no application fees to apply to DIA.

Once the application has been received, the admissions office will inform parents regarding availability of places. When Admissions are able to proceed with the application, they will invite the student to sit an assessment test, either online if residing abroad (for ages 7 upwards) or at the school premises in Dubai. This test incurs an AED 500 administration fee and is English and Mathematics oriented.

The Admissions office will notify the parents, on the basis of the assessment test results coupled with information from previous school reports, whether DIA is able to offer the applicant a place.
What documents are required for admissions?

2 x copy of student’s passport
2 x copy of student’s UAE residency visa
1 x copy of student’s birth certificate (in English or Arabic)
1 x copy of student’s previous 2 years of school reports
1 x copy of student’s immunisation record
4 x passport photographs

Original Transfer Certificate from previous school (for Year 2 and upwards)

The abovementioned documents are only required when your child is invited for the assessment test.
Can I join DIA from any other school, anywhere in the world?

Providing the required documentation is provided and that the student meets the necessary entrance requirements, students from all nationalities are welcomed.
When does DIA’s academic year start and finish?

The academic year runs from early September to June, across two semesters.
What are the school timings?

Normal school timings are:

KG 1 to KG 2 -   7:30am to 12:45pm
Year 1 to Year 13 -   7:30am to 2:30pm

Please note that during Ramadan these timings will alter / shorten.
Where can I find out what’s happening at DIA?

Are there career opportunities at DIA for parents?

DIA is always happy to consider applications for both teaching and administrative positions. All teachers must be degree educated and hold an officially recognised teaching qualification, and preferably have IB experience.

Does DIA offer field trips or excursions for students?

Throughout the school year regular and well-organised outings are arranged, in line with the curriculum content and to support both the students’ learning and all round development.

The PYP students will often have a field trip as part of each Programme of Inquiry, and past ones have included:

Overnight Desert Camping in Dibba
Mushrif Park
Safa Park
Souk Madinat Jumeriah
Creek Park and Children’s City
Sharjah Discovery Centre
Exhibition of Islamic Art at The Emirates Palace Hotel, Abu Dhabi
… And many others

For the MYP and Diploma students there is an additional opportunity for overseas trips as part of the Community Service component within the curriculum. DIA has successfully taken groups of students to:

France
UK
Ethiopia
Egypt
Oman

In addition, DIA also actively participates in the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Model United Nations, which both provide travel opportunities for our students, and encourage their all round development.
What after school activities are available?

There is a comprehensive range of activities available for all ages of students. These include: Sport both for fun and to compete against other schools, including: Soccer; basketball; athletics; swimming; cross country; table tennis
  • Arts: DIA Singers; recorder club; rock band; art attack; belly dancing; drama

Both the Elementary and Secondary schools have trained counsellors able to assist with provision of pastoral care and emotional, academic or family concerns.

How do I notify DIA of my contact detail, or of any changes to them?

Once enrolled, parents can change their contact details by speaking with the receptionists, or Elementary School or Secondary School secretaries, or by sending an email to admissions@diadubai.com outlining what changes are necessary.
What facilities does DIA have?

DIA has a well-appointed campus built on 350,000 sq ft of land in the well-located Emirates Hills area of Dubai.
